Any North Carolinians out there?

By this point, I’m fairly certain you know how I feel about marriage equality. If you don’t, I’m all for it. I see no argument against it that can stand much scrutiny. A gay marriage in no way diminishes my straight marriage. If you feel that biblically, God says marriage is between a man and a woman, then that is for you to believe. But your religion doesn’t dictate our rights. Though many of our rights do protect your religion and your right to speak freely about it, they do not grant your beliefs more weight or the power to supersede the rights of others.

A dear friend of mine has written this. Please read and consider. Then if you agree [which I hope you do] please pass it along to any North Carolinians out there that need to vote next week.

Thank you.

I am a North Carolina voter (moved here from way upstate NY) and I totally agree with you. I guess I just don’t understand why people would want to stand in the way of someone’s happiness. Maybe just because they can. I work with a few people – both married for years – who were clearly raised to believe that gay is wrong. They say “Well, it doesn’t bother, I just don’t think its right.” Why? How does it affect your affect your daily life? It doesn’t so why not let two people legally have what you’ve had for years (and at times taken for granted). I could go on forever about how ignorant this whole argument is. And I’m tired of hearing about living in The Bible Belt as an excuse.
